Add knowledge, data & tools

Give an agent reference documents and the tools it needs to answer useful questions.

Open Data settings

Open your agent’s management page and choose Data. This is where you manage its sources and tools. The options depend on your edition and enabled capabilities.

Add reference documents

Upload the documents the agent should consult. Wait for processing to finish before testing questions about them. Use a focused collection of current material, and remove outdated files when they are replaced.

Try questions whose answers you already know, and check that the agent cites the right document. A file attached to a single chat is different from knowledge installed on the agent.

Add tools and other sources

On the hosted service, the Toolbox and dataset catalogue offer reusable sources and tools. A tool may require a provider account or credentials before it can work. On-premise supports documents and configured API connectors; its administrator controls which endpoints are allowed.

Keep credentials separate

Use Secrets for credentials and Variables for configuration values where these sections are available. Do not paste credentials into the agent’s public description or its starter prompts.

Test access

Ask the agent to perform a small, representative task. If a source fails, check its setup requirements and permissions. Installing a tool and connecting a user’s account are separate steps; see Connect your apps.
